Gesellschaft Möbelwagen 1897 e.V.

The Gesellschaft Möbelwagen 1897 e.V., Stuttgart's first carnival club, has a rich and vibrant history. Founded on March 2, 1897, the club originated from a whimsical journey of a group in a repurposed furniture wagon through Stuttgart, which caused a sensation and led to a royal pardon. This event marked Stuttgart's first carnival parade in about 350 years and led to the establishment of the Council of Eleven, dedicated to maintaining the carnival traditions. In 1901, in then-monarchical Württemberg, the first Prince Carneval was crowned in Stuttgart, a symbolic event that established carnival in the city. Despite initial skepticism in Stuttgart, carnival steadily gained ground, though it faced setbacks during wartime. In 1946, following World War II, the Gesellschaft Möbelwagen emerged as a pioneer in post-war carnival life. A year later, the club founded Germany's first female dance guard. The club is renowned for its dance guards, like the Prince Guard formed in 1902 and the Page Corps, later renamed the Blue Dance Guard, established in 1947. In 1957, Roland Eyrich introduced the White Sparks, a new dance guard, and in the 1970s, the Youth Guard, a mix of children's and junior guards, was added. These dance guards have achieved numerous successes in carnival dance competitions, including the South German championship in march dancing. The Gesellschaft Möbelwagen 1897 e.V. thus plays a central role in Stuttgart's carnival, embodying a lively history, dance guards, and its role in promoting carnival, making it a significant cultural institution in Stuttgart.
